When Mosquitos Bite in Alaska

While we were in Nikiski, Isaac was the unfortunate victim of a pretty powerful mosquito bite. We were driving and on our way to the church building one morning when Dana looked back and noticed Isaac had a puffy area under his eye. It was about the size of a dime. The picture below was taken around lunch. His eye swelled up so much. I guess because the bite was right on the thin, senstive skin under his eye. This was the same day after he woke up from his nap. At this point, I gave our pediatrian a call to double check on what to do. She suggested upping his dose of children's benadryl. And she told me what to watch for that would signal needing to go to the nearby hospital.
The next morning after waking up. Just after he rolled out of bed, his eye was nearly shut completely. This shot was actually an improvement while he was eating breakfast.

Improving in the afternoon of day 2.Day 3, basically back to normal.
But actually, the mosquito got it worse than Isaac. When Dana first discovered the bite while we were driving, she also found the dead, smashed mosquito on his hand. So I guess you could say that my little guy had the upper hand! I'm just glad his eye is back to normal and that it just took a few days. And thankfully it didn't seem to bother him too much. He just had to bend his neck a little more at times to see around his swollen eyelid.
And a big thanks to Dana for taking these photos. They really tell the story well.

Poor little guy! I hope that he wasn't too miserable while his eye was swollen!
