Party Pics

The other evening we celebrated the little man's 3rd birthday with friends.  Since most of his little friends have a couple of siblings each, we decided to have the family party at the annex (fellowship hall) at our church building.  It gave the adults plenty of room to enjoy each others company and room for the kids to play.
We went with a construction truck theme since our little guy loves to watch them work.  It was a great theme for a little boy and pretty easy to plan, especially since I found a great party goods website this time around. Birthday Direct has low prices and a flat rate shipping fee--even to Alaska!  Plus, my order arrived FAST!  So I highly recommend them.

This is the cake I made for the occasion.  The little orange cones are the candles.  Aren't they cute?  And other than those candles, everything is edible.  The bulldozer blade was a granola bar and the "bars" connecting it to the front were pretzel rods.  The bulldozer itself was chocolate cake.  And yes, those back wheels were Ding Dongs.  I couldn't find them at the store, so I had to ask a clerk, "Um excuse me.  Where are the Twinkies and Ding Dongs?"  I felt so silly asking for something that is so...well, let's just admit it...unhealthy.  I know from childhood experiences that they taste good, but they can't be good for you.
This is the cake that inspired the one I made.
The boys--and the girls--enjoyed playing with the bucket of giant legos and trucks.  I was almost surprised with how long it occupied so many of them.
 There were also coloring sheets.
There were also lots of babies.  Many of these families have had new additions in the past year.  This baby is all mine, though. :)
Aunt Rachel had the magic touch.
These three dads always crack me up at our get togethers.  They each have a three year old boy who are within three months of each other in age.  At every birthday party or get together, they "circle up" and exchange the latest hunting stories.  I guess it's no coincidence that the three little boys get along just as well as their dads do.
After we had (moose) sloppy joes for dinner, it was time for cake.
 Followed by present time.
We had a great time celebrating and just hanging out with friends.  Thanks to all those who were able to come to the party.  And a big thanks to many family who sent cards and well wishes.  I really think he enjoyed his celebrations.

Oh what a fun day! I wish we could have been there. Isaac looks like he loved being the center of attention. And Levi looks like he's learing to pose for Mamma's blog pictures.

I love the cake. You did a great job. I love the surprise of the activity that take longer than you think it will.

What a fun party for a super boy. I think your cake looks better than the original picture. Much more construction zone-y. Way to go! Will you come down every year and be the party planner for our baby's birthday parties?

Fun party and CUTE cake! I like yours better than the one that inspired you. (just saw that Sharon said the same thing!) Levi is growing and such a good-looking and healthy baby. Wish I could hold him! By the way, please send me some of your go-go energy! ;)
