Just a few days ago, I was surprised to see two bald eagles hanging out in the trees of our neighbors backyard. I don't remember ever seeing eagles hanging around in our neighborhood before--not even flying by. Imagine my surprise when I came home several hours later and found two eagles hanging out in another tree in the same backyard. I pointed them out to the kids and they were quite impressed (with the eagles, not me...hmmph). Before we knew it there were four perched on two different trees. I looked up and saw about 4 four more soaring in the air high above. So naturally, I ran inside and got my camera. I managed to get a few pictures snapped before they moved around too much. I still don't know exactly why there were so many in our neighborhood at the same time. I could hear a lot of raven noises, so maybe that had something to do with it--who knows.

It's times like this that make me appreciate living in Alaska. It's truly a unique, wild, and beautiful place.

On the way to church when I am visiting my parents we usually see an eagle, but when we were there at Christmas, we didn't see him.
those are great pictures! your camera does a good job at close-ups!
They are amazing birds. That reminds me of the afternoon at Bea's house when it seemed like we all the eagles is the state soaring around. Yes you do live in an amazing place.
You should throw some pork fat out in the front yard and see what happens, just for old time's sake.
There are two cool things about this post. First, the eagles. Second, the fact that the beautiful scenery is your neighborhood. Thanks for sharing.
Hi Rachel (and Shawn).
Completely unrelated to your "Neighborhood Friends" post, congrats on the big news! We're thrilled for you and will be praying for a healthy pregnancy.
Love you all,
Meg and John
Very, very cool. Amazing you saw so many. We saw a (one) bald eagle on the Deschutes two summers ago when our family was rafting down the river near Sunriver.
Hi, I live in Alaska too, in Eagle River. I love how the eagles look here in AK! Ours hang out here because people feed them...
Cute kids and nice bloggie!
