Recently both of our kids have impressed me with how they're learning and growing. A week and a half ago they both gave me moments to be a proud Momma. It was Sunday morning and Carly wanted to bring her purse and wallet (with a little change inside) to church. She had hinted that she wanted to "give her money to God" but I didn't count on it too much. She doesn't usually bring a purse with her to church although she has plenty. It's just one thing to want to bring one along and another to actually remember it when the rush of getting out the door starts. Anyway, this week she got her purse to church and I believe she hung up her purse on the hooks in her bible classroom. When the communion service started she actually remembered and got out a quarter and waited for the collection plate to pass. She did this all on her own without any help or even coin suggestions from me or Shawn. Then a song or two later it was time for her to go over for the children's Bible time. The kids in our congregation always drop off a collection in a basket on their way over to the annex. Carly was prepared for this collection too. She carefully pulled out a penny, closed up her wallet and then purse and left it on the pew by me instead of taking it with her to Bible time. I was very glad that there was no fussing about leaving her purse with me. I was also so impressed that she's gotten the idea of giving money to God and his church. And as a bonus she wanted to use her own money and not Mom's! (I'm sure that's just temporary.)
Isaac gave me another moment to be proud of on the same morning. As soon as we arrived that morning for Bible class, Isaac tried to run off after we got his coat off. This is pretty standard practice for him. But that particular Sunday he got a really good head start. He ran right into the auditorium. By the time I caught up with him he was half way down the main aisle. Now don't worry, there's not a class in the auditorium that he was interrupting or anything. But his Bible class is in a room just off the side of it. So I caught up to him and he actually took my hand (which he usually doesn't do, he'd rather not be held back and hold anyone's hand) and proceeded to lead me into his classroom. We got to the door, he paused to give his teachers a good morning smile, and then walked right on in.
Then, just this past Sunday, he ran off like before into the auditorium just after getting his coat off . But this time I got a bit side tracked talking to someone so by the time I caught up to him he had already walked into his classroom and had been placed into his seat. He just smiled at me when I got to the doorway. I am so impressed with him that he knows where to go at such a young spry age. I hope he continues to enjoy going to Bible class for years to come.
Both Carly and Isaac continually make me proud to be their momma, but these recent moments really brought smiles to my face. I enjoy seeing them when it seems they "get it". Whether it's distinguishing between upper case and lower case letters or learning to push a car around on the floor. I especially love seeing them understand things about God and His love for them. Walking into Bible class by themselves or using money from their own wallets might not be that big, but they are pieces of a foundation I hope they continue to build upon for the rest of their lives.

Keep it going.
Janet
I'm glad Carly and Isaac are learning these important things already. They make me a proud aunt! I know that they're learning by example from you and Shawn. I hope that one day our kids will be like their Alaskan cousins. Our kids who do not exist yet, just to be clear. Miss you guys!
Love, Sharon
Wow, those moments are so precious. Treasure them in your heart!
