So I decided to not only make a rich chocolate and caramel flavor, but also one that would challenge my baking skills a bit. The challenge came in the salted caramel filling. It was basically a swiss meringue butter cream and I hadn't ever made that type of butter cream before. So not only was it a delicious cake, it was also a fun kitchen adventure for me and a chance to try out something new. But in all honesty, I decided that I didn't care for swiss meringue butter cream as well as I had anticipated. If I make this exact cake combination again, I'll probably seek out a different caramel flavored filling or regular butter cream style recipe for between the layers. The flavors definitely went together well. The cake layers are VERY good and I've already used the the chocolate layers as a base for another cake. I'll definitely make the cake layers again.
I found the recipe here. I'm noticing that I often enjoy the recipe this blogger posts, so I'm sure you'll notice that I link to her posts frequently. I just wish my pictures of this cake looked as good as hers.
We all enjoyed eating this cake, even this cutie!
