Autumn Day

Today was a beautiful day in Juneau. We woke up to discover that we had a bit of frost last night. I was concerned about the herbs I still have growing in my garden, but Shawn said it wasn't a very hard frost. And I suppose he should know since he's up all night patrolling now.
Anyway, having frost last night meant no cloud cover which fortunately lasted all day today. That made today was very picture worthy. So while Carly was at her preschool playgroup, Isaac and I had a little "momma/son" time. We took a walk out towards the glacier. (I cheated though, since I had errands I wanted to do. I drove part of the way, and we walked from the car instead of our house.) We even went down to the lake which is already getting icy on the surface. And we saw some bear prints and scat in and on the sand. Of course, Isaac didn't notice these things. No actual bears though. I did see a Forest Service lady walking around with a can of bear mace though. So that kind of made me wonder if I should be concerned, but we didn't have any problems. Besides I think I can run faster than a lot of those tourists--even with a baby in my arms!
Anyway, back to the story...we parked the stroller up on the side walk and then went down to the lake. I was hoping to take some great pictures of just Isaac with the morning sun on his face. But he was so intrigued with the sand, rocks, leaves, etc and not so much with the camera. So that's why there are so many "serious" faces. Here are some of the shots I got of him today.

Looking at the water--or maybe the bear scat? "I wonder if I can eat this? I better be fast before Momma stops me."
Trying to run away--ha, ha!

I never get tired of this view! Even though we live just a few minutes away from this spectacular sight, I never get tired of it. In fact, probably 75% of the time I bring my camera with me when we go to the glacier. And most of the time, I just can't help from taking this classic picture of the glacier. Check out the snow we got on the top of the mountain to the left of the glacier. That is fresh.
This is the stretch of road between our street and the glacier. It looks so beautiful right now with the leaves changing color. The camera just never does these types of shots justice. I absolutely love driving down streets like this in fall. It reminds me of the street in Mito, Japan near Senba Elementary School that turned a brilliant gold in the fall when the ginko trees changed colors. Love it!

Looks like you and Isaac had a fun day. I took the boys on a little walk this afternoon. The sun is nice to see. I think we are going to go for a picnic tonight after David gets home. As for the names with J~ I think I am going to aviod them because we already have Joe and Justus. I think another J name will surely become a huge tounge twister. I already get them mixed up sometimes. To the point I call Justus, Joe even when Joe is at school. Best Mom award goes to me this time. :-)

Most people think we live in paradise (in a SoCal beachtown) but you guys seem to have paradise right where you live. =) The creation is so diverse. We wish we could come up there.
