Wall Art--Alaskan Style

Shawn has been waiting a whole year for this day. Last summer he went Dall sheep hunting with friends near Tok, Alaska (in the interior of Alaska just across the Canadian border). As some of you may remember, he was successful and able to get one Dall sheep. So of course, Shawn wanted to get his trophy mounted. Fortunately, my husband is not fond of spending large amounts of money, so the full body mount option was only a fleeting thought. But he decided on a simple shoulder mount. As you can imagine, he was very glad to pick it up this last week from the taxidermist. And he's quite proud of his trophy. So we quickly found a spot for it on the wall. It's in the living room pretty much over the TV. So now when we're watching TV there's another set of eyes watching us! It's not really that bad. I must admit I don't feel awkward about it at all, and I sort of expected that I would. For some strange reason it feels like it's always been there.
I think it's kind of humorous how it's mounted at the end of the pictures of our kids. Does that tell you how much Shawn enjoys it? Just kidding. But this should tell ya--and remind Shawn--that I'm one fantastic wife!

Here's Shawn with his sheep on it's fateful day, August 23, 2007. And check out all the effort he went to to get it back home and on our wall. How could I tell him no after a trek with that giant load?

NO KIDDING that you're one fantastic wife. I'm pretty sure Ben's sheep would never see the inside of our house (although even typing that makes me laugh as I think about my husband hunting).

Hey I hope you know that Andy will be calling your hubby to go goat hunting on his next long change...well, that's what he has told me anyway. You should let him go because we really need some meet in our freezer

Wow! Yes, you are very kind to let Shawn mount that in your living room...I can't say I'd be as willing!
