The Juneau Parade

Every year Juneau has a big 4th of July parade. We haven't always gone, but this year was perfect with sunny skies and highs around 75. It made for a beautiful day, although it did get a little hot just sitting there on the sidewalk. Isaac was a little bit nervous about the parade though. I'm sure everything just looked huge to him, because it looked big enough to me since we were practically sitting on the ground. I thought it was a pretty good parade for our modestly sized town. And I'm glad we finally found our friends the Paden's and the Henderson's even after I walked right past them and had to call Lela three times to figure out where they were. Thank goodness for cell phones!

Back in the day (the late 1800's), Chief Kowee showed Joe Juneau and Richard Harris where to find gold. That boom town later became Juneau.

The Filipino community parade entry. They are always so energetic and one of my favorite things about the parade.

(Yes, we usually do everything with our church friends.)

Shawn stopped by our group during the parade. Isaac was pretty quick to jump up and give him a hug.

The Kennsington Gold Mine recently won a Supreme Court decision that allows them to restart their mining operations. This is huge for Juneau. A year from now our town should have about 200 more residents employed full time and have a responsible mining operation. There was a lot of support for thier parade entry. And the big trucks were quite impressive. I think it was Isaac's favorite part of the parade.

The driver of the second truck in this picture was playing with the hydrolics and had this huge thing rocking and rolling down the street.

Carly had some new hairbow to wear for the 4th. They didn't turn out quite like I had hoped, but they were still cute.

That's great that you support the mining industry like we do. I feel excited everytime I see great support. I'm sad I missed the parade but maybe another year. And the church family is awesome! They are the best people to celebrate the 4th with

I don't remember seeing this Juneau when we were there last June. Guess we'll have to come back. Actually hope to do that one day.
