So Long Curls

Well, I guess it was bound to happen, but I still wasn't ready for it. On Sunday, Isaac got his first haircut. I agree that he was ready for a haircut, but it is WAY TO SHORT for me. You'd think that I'd like it better with time, but not really. I think I hate it more with time. When he wears his hat when playing outside I forget that his hair is so short. But then when he takes it off, I get a little shock and a tinge of sadness.
Shawn even agrees that it's shorter than he had expected, but he loves it. He thinks Isaac looks nice and clean cut.
Isaac doesn't seem to mind. When we ask him where his hair is, he still grabs at his head and doesn't act like he's missing a pile of curls.
Carly agrees with me and doesn't like his hair. But I think she and I are starting to get used to it. Not necessarily liking it. I'm just not as shocked every time I turn around and look at him.
I should also mention that since we did this on Sunday afternoon, Shawn was almost attacked by many of the ladies at church when we went back for evening services. One lady told him that he should have brought his weapon along if he was going to bring Isaac like that. In other words he'd need it to protect himself from the unhappy church grandmas.
I'm sure it's going to take more time, but hopefully I'll get better used to it.

Fortunately Katie and Kinsey were over so Katie had the camera and Kinsey had the video camera. So the even was properly documented. Thanks girls! And no, Carly didn't like the haircut event.

Isaac didn't really like it either.

Here's a flashback photo of our nephew, Isaiah, around the same age that Isaac is now (with a 13 month old Carly). Of course, Isaiah's complexion is darker than Isaac's, but as soon as Shawn finished the haircut, we noticed the resemblance. Not exactly "twins" but definitely related.
Enjoy the pictures and shed a mommy tear for me!

The haircut make him look older.

I wasn't home when Bill gave Justin his first haircut.

Boo hoo :( our baby is growing up. What a sad day. 2 good things are that Isaac should be cooler during your 80* days, and that his hair will grow back. More curls for the future.
Love, MOM

Aww....its hard being a mom. He still looks super cute though. And maybe those curls will grow back!

That is pretty drastic. The first picture of the haircutting event cracks me up. You and Carly both look so unhappy. And I thought the same thing about Isaiah and Isaac when I saw the picture of him in his pjs.

Wow, that is short!

You guys went all out for the first haircut, you went straight for the clippers! I trimmed bits of Wesley's with scissors as he needed it before we got out the clippers! I hope it gets easier for all of you, although Shawn didn't look like he had any hesitations doing it!

I admit even your description of the haircutting event didn't prepare me enough for the pictures. =) It is cute, though---just short!

I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one who thinks his hair is incredibly short.
Drastic is a great word, Sharon. And you're right, Marilyn, no hesitations for Shawn.
I hope the curls grow back, but we'll see. I think traditionally the Phelps' have the curly hair until the first cut and then it comes back with puberty. We'll see what happens with our little Phelps.
Carly seems to have my straight hair and not Shawn's curly.
Thanks for the comments, everyone.

Looks good! He is a cuttie no matter what hair he has.
